Is your 1999 - 2006 1.8T engine block broken? Has the rear upper ear broken off of the engine block? This bracket makes this part of the engine mounting system stronger than stock. This kit will save you a lot of time and an engine! Believe it or not, many cars have been totaled and many engines have been exchanged for new ones simply because this mounting ear had broken off.
Installation: The repair bracket can be easily installed with the engine in place. On all 1.8T engines, the intercooler hose bracket will require modification shown in the last picture on the left of the page and in the YouTube video below as well. Furthermore, we highly recommend that you first make sure that the 7mm and 8mm threads for the mounting holes in the engine block are clean before mounting this fix due to the likelihood of rust being present in these threads. You can try to thread the bolts into the holes first to see if cleanup is needed. If necessary, use an M7 x 1.0 tap and an M8 x 1.25 tap to clean out the threads. The bracket should be fastened to the back of the block with the middle M7 and lower M8 bolts. The threaded tip of the middle M7 bolt will also serve as a stud for the timing belt tensioner. Use the supplied M7 washer and hex nut to secure the tensioner to the block. The upper long M10 bolt should be threaded into the repair bracket last and tightened fully before fully tightening the other two bolts. The repair will last forever.
Please note that this kit comes only with hardware to attach the bracket to the engine. You must also replace all of the engine bracket bolts which are contained in the separate bolt kit available here. Save time and money buying both kits at the same time.
